Student Academic Progress

The work of the teacher results in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic   progress.

Standardized testing is a major driving factor for teachers to monitor student academic progress not just from the start of the year, but progressively throughout the academic year to make sure that students are prepared for these tests and for future material for upcoming classes that will build upon prior knowledge.

Not only are teachers tasked with the responsibility of preparing students for standardized tests and achieving state-mandated skills, but teachers also must be preparing students with life skills and the ability to achieve higher level thinking to be successful both inside and outside of the school and academic specific areas. There are limitless methods and practices that teachers can utilize to monitor student progress, but before implementing those tools, teachers need to understand several factors about their students, in order to accurately and effectively monitor and assess student academic progress.

To meet the standard of Student Academic Progress, teachers must implement three fundamental aspects:  creating goals for students to meet that are appropriate for each individual student, following up on those decided goals, and adjusting instruction and/or goals when the goals have been met or are not being met, maintaining documentation of student work and progress in the form of assessments, journal notes, and portfolios of student work, and communication with students, parents, and other school staff to fully assess and understand a student’s academic progress.

Communication with students, parents and administration is extremely imperative to assessing student academic progress and ensuring that students are getting the support they need to succeed.
