Learning Environment

Teachers use resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, positive, safe, student-centered environment that is conducive to learning.

– Virginia Department of Education

The standard of Learning Environment defines an effective, positive and respectful classroom by incorporating a successful classroom management and behavior plan, and critical organization for the classroom each day. Keys to effective classroom management include various factors that work together to form a positive and respectful learning environment, such as instructional methods, behavior expectations and a positive atmosphere.

The most important aspects of these factors are:  accountability for both the teacher and his/her students in the form of classroom expectations, cultural awareness, and the implementation of evidence-based practices to ensure effective classroom management.
