Assessment of and for Learning

Here students are taking their post-test for the Judicial Branch Unit on Blackboard.

Teachers systematically gather, analyze, and use all relevant data to measure student academic progress, guide instructional content and delivery methods, and provide timely feedback to both students and parents throughout the school year.

The standard Assessment of and for Learning is a major key to implementing an effective learning environment in the classroom regardless of subject matter or student age. Not only should a teacher’s knowledge, planning and delivery of the subject matter be at its utmost paramount, but so too should assessment of the students’ learning.

Click here to see Reading Assessments of two students using the Ohio Literacy Alliance reading prompts. By using this data, I can find reading assignments and create text sets that work for all of my students to ensure they are learning in a way that best suits their needs.

Three key factors that are crucial for this area are: knowing the students in the classroom and their levels of development, behavior, culture, and learning abilities and disabilities; strategies for instruction and classroom assessment, and students’ motivation and affect in the classroom.
